VoteVal

Privacy Policy

This explains what this site collects, what it publishes, and who can see what. It describes how the site actually works rather than covering every eventuality in general terms.

What we collect

When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture. We store them so you can be recognised when you come back.

When you vote we store your choice, whether you chose to show your name, any reason you wrote, the points your vote was worth, and the time. If you later change your vote, both the change and its time are recorded.

When you set a display name we store it, and we keep a record of previous names. That history is never shown publicly.

On Light Fun Polls we store the name you type and a random identifier in your browser so you can edit your own vote. No account is needed.

We do not use advertising or analytics trackers.

What is published

On a vote where you show your identity, other people see your display name, your choice and your reason.

On a vote where you choose anonymity, others see only a pseudonym such as "Voter #3". The same pseudonym is used for all of your actions on that vote, so your reasoning can be followed without your name.

Your email address is never published. In the rare case where an account has no name at all, a masked form such as `bu***ov@gmail.com` is shown instead.

Names are recorded as they stood when you voted. Changing your display name later does not alter a vote you already cast.

Who can see what

The moderator of a vote can see the real identity behind every vote on it, including anonymous ones. This is deliberate: it is what allows abusive text to be removed. If you need to be anonymous from the person running the vote, this site cannot offer that. Every action a moderator takes is written into that vote's activity log with a reason.

Site administrators can see accounts, suspend them, and remove votes entirely. Those actions are recorded too.

Anyone with the link can read a vote's results, and its activity log once the moderator publishes it.

Where your data lives

The database and sign-in are provided by Supabase, the site is hosted by Vercel, and sign-in is handled by Google. Each holds data on their own infrastructure under their own terms.

Keeping and deleting

Votes are kept as long as the vote exists. A moderator can delete a vote that nobody has voted on yet; after that the record stays, because a record that can be erased is not a record.

To ask for your account or personal data to be removed, contact us using the details on the contact page. Where a vote has already closed, we can remove your account and name from future display but the historical record of the vote itself remains.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page.
